Years ago my family lived in a beautiful home with a big bay window that overlooked a gorgeous, green countryside.
There were rolling fields of beautiful flowers that were surrounded by large, stately trees.
When a gorgeous sunset was added to the picture, the beauty of the scene captivated my soul and took my breath away.
Directly across the street from my house there was an entirely different scene.
Sitting on the corner there was a rather large dumpster that was often overflowing with trash.
It was an eyesore.
The minute that the trash collector showed up to take the trash away, someone immediately showed up to dump more trash into the unsightly dumpster.
In a matter of hours the container was once again overflowing with trash.
I had a choice every day when I looked out that window.
My first option was to cast my gaze on the gorgeous countryside and get lost in the beauty of the rolling fields and flowers.
My second choice was to fix my eyes on that awful, dirty dumpster that was continually belching over with trash.
I submit to you that you and I have choices to make every day similar to the ones that I just described.
We can look at the trash that we stumble upon daily in our lives, or we can focus on the beauty that is inherent at the break of each new day.
We are encouraged in God's Word to think on the things that are good, lovely, pure, and that are of a good report.
It is unfortunate that the world that we live in is filled with the tyranny of the urgent and the fear of certain loss.
Our daily thoughts are consumed with the devastation of poverty, the doom of the doctor's report, and the deficits of our financial planner.
We are often plagued with the effects of a broken relationship and the countless other catastrophes that are lurking outside the doors of our lives.
It is human nature to focus on the awful and the catastrophic events of our lives.
Very often our worst fears come to pass and we realize our most dreaded nightmares.
The trash that has gripped our lives and souls tends to consume us every waking moment.
We reckon only with the circumstances and our limitations to turn them around.
We fail to see the beauty of the rolling fields and smell the sweet fragrance of the flowers that cross our lives every day.
If you find yourself focusing on the awful and mundane issues of your life, then I have a word for you.
It is a word that I believe is inspired.
I believe that this word will bring hope to the hopeless.
If you heed the word, I believe it will change your life and put your feet on higher ground.
You must do what the word says for it to help you.
You must do what the word says every day of your life for it to fully impact and transform the choices you make and the way you live your life.
The word I have for you is simple.
I want to exhort you to lift up your eyes so that you can see that your help and your deliverance are nearer than you think.
Even though doom and gloom may be lurking at every turn in your life, God is still alive and well and he has not given up on you.
He has not abandoned his guardianship over your life.
He never slumbers and he does not sleep.
He has not forgotten about you.
He is the beginning and the end of your dilemma.
He is a God who intervenes in the affairs of men and women.
He will never leave you.
He will not forsake you.
Set your gaze on him and the cares of this world will grow dim.
You will soon find renewed trust, belief, and hope.
Always remember, hope will never disappoint you.
